Event: Bike Lit Reading by Darryl Whetter

When: Mon, May 26, 12 - 1 pm

Where: Nathan Philips Square (City Hall - 100 Queen St. W)

Description:

"Readings from a novel about sex, death and bicycling."
Author, journalist and professor Darryl Whetter will read from his bicycle novel The Push & the Pull. The novel centres on Andrew Day’s bicycle odyssey through eastern Canada.
As Andrew climbs one hill after another he realizes that “any desire is a weight.” The novel also compares the “second skeleton” and “naked machine” of the bicycle to the body of Andrew’s father, who suffered from a degenerative disease. In episodes of intensifying violence,
Andrew is forced onto the side of the road and must question what he will do to reach home and a love he may have forsaken.
