Last week I met up with a photographer from the local independent paper in my neighbourhood (the east end), the Beach Metro News. They contacted me after I made sure local community groups knew about the Group Commute on Mon, May 25th, and the startpoints of Woodbine & Danforth and Dundas East & Kingston Road. More info and startpoints from the group commute can be found here.

Here's the article from
their website. I'm not sure how long it will be online. He got a photo of me laughing at something he said. Ha. :)
Joe Travers, Danforth East resident and creator of the popular bikingtoronto.com website, will be one of many cyclists helping kick off Toronto's annual Bike Month. Bike Month runs from May 25 to June 25, and the morning of May 25 will start with Ride Your Bike To Work Day's group commute. For Beachers heading downtown, rides will start from two spots in the East End, including the northwest corner of Danforth and Woodbine, with the ride starting at 7 a.m., and another group leaving from Kingston Road and Dundas at 7:30 a.m.

The Woodbine and Danforth group will meet up with other groups at Yonge and Bloor around 7:30, then head to Nathan Phillips Square for a massive group breakfast set for 8 a.m.

Travers has been taking part in the annual group commute for four years, and said the feeling of picking up more and more cyclists along the Danforth makes a great experience.

“It's a lot of fun, there's an insane amount of cyclists all biking together,” he said.

The Danforth ride will be accompanied by a police escort, and all riders will get breakfast, a T-shirt and other giveaways at City Hall. For more information on Bike Month, visit www.toronto.ca/cycling/bikemonth/, and for more on cycling in Toronto, visit www.bikingtoronto.com.
