I came across this great yet sobering collection of photos the other day. It shows the aftermath of a cyclist-taxi collision near Queens Park on Friday, October 5th.
I've appended a few photos below and you can see all of them here, taken by sniderscion.
It's heartening to see all the pedestrians who ran out into the street to help the cyclist. Forget any media news interpretations of the big bad city. Toronto is filled with wonderful people.
I was shooting at the legislature today with my back turned to the road when I heard a yell and a bump. I spun around to see a woman laying on the street after being hit by a taxi. Several people immediately ran into the street to help-some attending to the victim while others blocked off and redirected the traffic. Three bicycle police happened to be stationed at the legislative buildings behind me and arrived within a minute of the accident.
The whole sequence of events took about 15 minutes from the time of impact to the time the paramedic crew were walking the woman to the ambulance. Police, Fire department, and then ambulance all had arrived within 8 minutes. In the end the woman walked under her own power to the ambulance-lucky considering the impact knocked her right out of her shoes.

Be careful out there everyone!

Wait, wait... Hold on one second here fella... Do you mean to tell me that a Cabbie hit a cyclist? I am in total disbelief! Surely, the terrorist... er... I mean cyclist must be to blame!

Here's hoping the cabbie gets penalized.

The cab driver needs to hand in the license. Period.
Posts/photos like these always stir a lot of emotion within me.
